Sponsor Responsibilities
Club & Association Responsibilities
- Select a club member to volunteer as the Community Service Summer Fellowship
Coordinator, with the responsibility of being the primary support person
for the Fellow (s) and the liaison to the AYA.
- Identify a specific non-profit community-based program for each fellowship,
and confirm the presence of an on-site supervisor. The decision should take
place with guidance from the club’s/association’s board of directors
and AYA staff.
- Complete the Site Selection Form (available through AYA), with input from
the on-site supervisor, describing in detail the work to be performed by
the Fellow. It is important to identify work that will be “hands on” and
which will provide accessible, consistent supervision.
- Ensure appropriate housing for the Fellow(s). Yale connected families are
preferred. The student may be asked to pay for food and personal phone costs.
- Contact the Fellow during the summer with an invitation to participate
in the club’s summer activities, and to speak with members about the
summer experience.
Club & Association Coordinator Responsibilities
- Maintain frequent contact with the Fellow(s) weekly during the eight weeks
of the summer project.
- Arrange to have the Fellow(s) speak at an alumni gathering about the project.
This need not be a formal club event.
- Encourage local alumni to host the Fellow(s) for a meal or an outing.
- Evaluate the program and the success of the Fellow’s placement by
completing the AYA’s evaluation form.
On-site Supervisor Responsibilities
- Serve as the contact person for your organization with the Yale Club Coordinator
and AYA staff.
- Provide Club Coordinator with details of the project to be completed by
the Fellow, insuring that the work will include significant “hands
on” opportunities.
- Supply the Club Coordinator and the AYA with any brochures, newsletters,
etc. describing your community organization.
- Supervise the Fellow on a consistent basis during the eight weeks.
- Evaluate the program and the success of the student placement by completing
the AYA’s evaluation form.
